PROJECT engineers and contractors handling the rehabilitation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) have been charged to display professionalism in the assignment.

NRC’s Managing Director, Adeseyi Sijuwade, an engineer, gave the charge.

He said it was with a view to giving the country a holistic railway rehabilitation that will justify the government’s investment in the sector.

Sijuwade disclosed this while addressing the conference of the corporation’s engineers and district managers on the monitoring of this year’s capital projects.

The conference, which took place at the Ebute-Metta headquarters of the corporation, Lagos Mainland, was attended by many stakeholders.

He noted that the success of the rehabilitation would be everybody’s joy and mark the beginning of a new era in the life and fortunes of the country’s 111-year-old corporation.

Maintaining that the on-going exercise was the first of its kind where NRC’s engineers and officers enjoy full control and involvement, Sijuwade charged them to handle it as personal projects to achieve positive results.

He, however, directed that all engineers and heads should furnish his office with weekly progress report.

He also advised them engineers to take the advantage of the rehabilitation to prove their worth and   improve the corporate profile of the NRC.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had, at its October 7 meeting, approved the award of a N12.3 billion contract for the rehabilitation of tracks and signaling from Lagos to Jebba to a Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) Nig. Ltd.

It gave the firm 10 months to carry out the assignment, with an assurance that the rehabilitation of Jebba to Kano line would soon be awarded.
